One of the accused, himself a convert, reportedly informed the cops that he is a resident of Batala House in Jamia Nagar.

According to UP ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar, there is a racket running in the state converting people to Islam. There have been such cases in Noida, Kanpur, and Mathura.

The ADG reportedly said that these the two accused targeted poor families, jobless youngsters, differently-abled people, etc., for conversion. Monetary measures were used to lure them to Islam.

He also pointed out that there could be funding from Pakistan’s ISI.

There are also women among those who have been coerced into changing their faith, Kumar said, adding that many of the women were married off.

With finances coming from various parts of the world, the accused were running an outfit called Islamic Dawa Centre.
