156 rescued from South Sudan

A special Indian Air Force (IAF) craft, C-17 Globemaster, on Friday brought 156 persons, including 46 from Kerala, back to India from the war-torn South Sudan. The exercise was part of Operation Sankat Mochan.

Two Nepalese, seven women, and three children were among the people rescued.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while greeting the rescued people, congratulated External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, the IAF, and the Railway Ministry. He also congratulated V.K. Singh who led the operation.
