BSF to stay at LoC in J&K

Ravi Shanker Kapoor |

The decision to “thin out” presence of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir has been shelved, at least for the time being.

While the decision regarding lighter presence of the paramilitary force will be taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security, the direction for status quo has come from the Prime Minister’s Office.

There is a proposal withdraw four of the 12 battalions of the BSF from LoC in the wake of the Pathankot incident. Another proposal, regarding the de-induction of all 12 BSF battalions, is also be mulled over by the National Security Council under National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Unsurprisingly, the BSF top brass is opposed to any such move, for it reflects badly on their competence.
